We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented specialist to play a key role in developing and enhancing VERA, our proprietary, state-of-the-art analysis and downscaling system for meteorological data.

Your main responsibilities are: 

  • Operate, maintain, and continuously improve VERA, UBIMET’s unique meteorological analysis and downscaling method 

  • Advance the development of downstream physical models and algorithms that deliver more precise forecasts. 

  • Define and investigate case studies around complex weather phenomena — from convective storms to isothermal snowfall. 

  • Evaluate and compare different meteorological simulation methods to ensure we’re always delivering the most accurate insights. 

  • Convert and visualize analyzed and simulated results 

Job requirements

What you need to be successful: 

  • A completed Master’s degree in Meteorology, Physics, Geophysics, or a related field  

  • Experience in working with and developing meteorological forecasting models  

  • Good understanding of fluid dynamics (numerics, dynamics, physics) and statistics  

  • Programming skills in Python and Matlab  

  • Experience with Linux as a working environment  

  • Advanced English skills, German is a plus  

  • A goal-oriented and result driven approach

For legal reasons, we would like to point out that the minimum salary for this position is EUR 42.000,- gross per year. Significant overpayment is possible, depending on qualifications and experience.
